The Island & Sandbars

Kalanggaman Island features 753 meters of white sand and clear swimming zones. The famous eastern sandbar shifts with the daily tides.

The island covers 5.4 hectares in the Visayan Sea. It is strictly preserved, with visitor capacity limited to 500 tourists per day to protect the ecosystem.

You will spend most of your time walking the sandbars or swimming in the designated calm waters. There are no commercial restaurants, so you must pack your own meals and drinking water.

The Long Eastern Sandbar

1 hourVisit at low tide

This is the main feature of Kalanggaman. The long stretch of white sand changes shape depending on the tide. Visit during low tide for the best visibility and photos. Do not swim directly at the tip because of strong, dangerous riptides.

The Western Sandbar

30 minGood for sunset views

The western end of the island holds a shorter, quieter sandbar. It receives fewer crowds than the eastern side. This is an excellent spot for sunrise or sunset views if you plan to pay the 1,500 PHP foreign overnight fee to camp.

Swimming & Snorkeling Zones

1-2 hoursBring your own snorkel gear

The local government designates specific calm waters along the sides of the island for safe swimming. These zones protect visitors from the strong currents near the sandbar tips. You will need to bring your own snorkel mask since rentals are scarce.
